BRIN data shows that the ratio of researchers in Indonesia is 199 per million inhabitants, far below Malaysia, which has 503 researchers per million inhabitants. Some other sources even cite lower figures, such as 90 researchers per million inhabitants.
Although there has been an increase in the number of Indonesian scientific publications in international journals, such as those indexed by Scopus, the number is still lower than other countries such as China, South Korea, and Malaysia. In 2022, Indonesia produced around 43,300 scientific documents indexed by Scopus.
